Our school, as a partner school in the GREEEN – Games, Resources, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Education Network project, actively participated in the eco-competition. Its aim is to take environmental action in the immediate surroundings of each partner country. To achieve this, with students from the second, third, and fourth grades, we created the eco-corner, placed in one of the corridors of our school.
This eco-corner will serve as a space for sharing information on environmental protection, ecological activities, and details contributing to raising environmental awareness among students. Two panels were crafted and attached to the wall, displaying ecological calendars with significant national and international days related to ecology, information about the GREEEN project, ongoing project activities, and other environmental news.
For making the labels (letters), students reused old paper and cardboard. In crafting decorations, they used materials such as cans, plastic bottles, old CDs, plastic caps, used paper, and more. However, the most enjoyable part of the project was repurposing old car tires into seats. For their complete creation, we utilized materials found within our school: old and damaged school chairs for the metal legs and pieces of wood from old school benches and boards covered with sponge, canvas, and twine for the seating part.
As a result, the eco-corner is now a frequently visited place where students sit during school breaks or rest before entering nearby laboratories and classrooms. The purpose of this eco-corner is to be a space for exchanging ideas for future activities, stimulating the creativity of students, educating them about local, national, or international environmental issues, generating ideas to improve mutual relations, and initiating solutions for local environmental challenges, etc.
